Ballistic Gelatin Test

This is a test of my AR 15 fired into a 11" gelatin block I made using Knox gelatin.

The block was not calibrated and this was not a scientific test but it sure was fun.

Test # 1

.223 Federal 50 Gr. Hollow Point fired from my Bushmaster AR15 M4 Carbine 14 1/2" barrel @ 10 feet

The bullet's impact moved the gelatin block backwards over 3 feet and put a large dent in my aluminum table.

Notice the large dent in the 1/8 inch thick aluminum table and the busted plastic lid falling back to the table.

Here's a top view of the same block showing the large cavity left by the bullet, now that looks ugly.

The bullet started expanding at 1" and reached maximum expansion at about 2.5".

The main cavity measured 2.75" wide X 3.5" long.

The bullet totally fragmented with most of the fragments between 5" and 7".

One small fragment exited the end of the 11" block.

More test coming soon, maybe my 450 Bushmaster, got to go melt down my gelatin and remold it.
